Incubating Home: Installation [2011]

Incubating Home lends physical form to the medium of digital video through a spatial layout of time-based imagery, housed in a light box, and projection of a multi-layered soundscape through directional speakers. The piece is a rumination on parenthood, as its activity is undertaken in a foreign place. Imagery of planting and harvesting, tied to the Midwestern landscape in which we lived, is coupled with audio of my English speaking daughter phonetically reciting the rules of behavior my father taught me as a child. Three channels project the sound, one playing my voice, another my daughter’s, and in the third they harmonize with each other.
