1994 through 2004
This performance is an homage to Yoko Ono’s Cut Piece, reinterpreted in an intimate setting with two invited close friends. It explores the transformation of Korean traditional identity as it shifts across time and place, from one generation to the next. As a young adult choosing a different path from the one I was raised in, the work reflects the tension between continuity and change. While identity can evolve, it cannot be entirely erased. This is symbolized by the act of hammering a Korean dress in an action that both destroys and retains, evoking a transition into a new cultural space while still bearing the weight of inherited tradition.
